The fast-paced action continues as Green Frog’s camera’s take you deeper into Norfolk Southern’s throbbing Rathole line from Oakdale, Tennessee, to Somerset, Kentucky. Watch trains highball over the busy track, through spectacular deep cuts dug in the early 1960s. some now being widened for double tracking. Most tunnels have been daylighted or bypassed, but trains still roll through Tunnels 22 and 24 and across the long high bridge between them at Nemo, Tennessee. Highlighting this video is a few minutes of train action on the connecting Kentucky & Tennessee Railway, an old time short line, and the affiliated Big South Fork Scenic Railway at Stearns, Kentucky. Enjoy vintage steam scenes on the K&T! Take a cab ride in the Big South Fork train, pulled by an Alco S-1 equipped with a steam Whistle! We also visit a now defunct partially reconstructed coal mine.

In Volume 3 of the Green Frog NS Collection, there are a bunch of countless diesels through one of the most interesting routes on the NS system: the Rathole.

Along the way, there are others in addition to NS like Conrail, BNSF, Chicago & Northwestern, the Big South Fork Scenic Railway with a cab ride on Alco Number 105 that has a paddleboat whistle for some reason, Canadian Pacific, Union Pacific, & HLCX. A Mention of Morehead & North Fork 12 was heard as the steam switcher was already moved to its new home at Sugar Creek Ohio.

Locations Include Oakdale Yard & tunnel 25 (which we left off in Volume 2), Nemo, Lansing, Sunbright, Black Wolf Creek near Glenn Mary, Robins, Oneida park, Windfield which is near the Kentucky state line, Cooper’s Lake log road, Marsha Siding, south of Parker’s lake through the rathole itself, Greenwood, Construction on an upgrade to Double track south of Tapeville, Sloans Valley, Burnside Bridge with a boat ride on the Cumberland River, Somerset Yard & Station, Stearns, with a quick vintage flashback to the Kentucky & Tennessee Shortline when steam was in charge especially when 4501 was in service on the K&T as number 12, Blue Heron with a tour of the mine area, & Barthell.

The opening theme song to this program was later used on a couple of titles from Greg Scholl: Rochelle Double Track diamonds from 2003, & Pennsy Steam from 2009.
