This program showcases the 15 tough miles of the old Norfolk and Western from the East Yard at Bluefield to the crossovers at Oakvale. The West Virginia autumn scenery is a beautiful backdrop for the parade of trains that Norfolk Southern operates on this line. This is the western end of the Christiansburg District of the Virginia Division. The line follows the East River Valley as it twists and curves its way to the New River at Glen Lynn, VA. There is a ruling grade of 1.6% for westbounds.
A nice bonus is the appearance of Norfolk Southern office train specials with classic “F Unit” locomotives. Informative subtitles with location, time, train symbols and pertinent information.

Great scenery, well-done videography and a parade of heavy, hardworking trains! This is coal country, but you’ll see a nice mix of consists. As with other R-Line videos, there’s no narration, but on-screen graphics give train, date and location information. With no narration, the train sounds take centerstage, and the sound quality is exceptional. It’s a format that works well, and this is one of R-Line’s finest.
