In the Appalachian Mountains in western North Carolina is a small but efficient yard for Norfolk Southern. NS uses Asheville Yard to connect coal and freight from the west to companies in the east and south. Watch heavy trains roll their way in and out of the yard. Locomotives get serviced while the train is taken apart or made up. We’ll see the yard switchers do this work as the trains keep rolling in with more tonnage. A lot of diesel power can be seen in the yard from old GP38s to the newer C40-9Ws. And we’ll see some run-through power as well.
