By the 1980s, the New York, Susquehanna and Western was in rough shape and bankrupt. The Delaware Otsego Corporation purchased the line and slowly began rehabilitating the infrastructure.
They acquired the ex-DLW Syracuse and Utica branches which became Susquehanna’s Northern Division from Conrail. The Delaware and Otsego Corporation was also the operator of the Stourbridge line from 1976 to 1989
In the mid-1980s, the Susquehanna gained the SeaLand container service from Binghamton to Little Ferry Yard in New Jersey
In this program, we’ll view operations on the Utica branch, the Stourbridge line and the SeaLand container stack trains from 1982 to 1988
