The New Haven was a compact giant! It dominated the transportation industry in southern New England. The NY, NH & H ran a lot of traffic over a relatively small number of route miles. A four track electrified main carried commuters to New York City. High speed iron along the “Shoreline” moved named trains, like the “Merchant’s Limited”, the “Senator” and “The Yankee Clipper” between Boston and New York.
The second DVD in this set covers the New Haven in the late ’40’s and early ’50’s. You will see and ride Budd RDC’s on the Highland division between New Britain and Waterbury. Experience FA powered freight and steam powered freight in New Britain. Tour the engine facility in East Hartford with steam and diesel.
