NYC Odyssey Volume 1 – Part 1 & Part 2
The Central was the main line that ran within fifty feet of Emery’s bedroom when he was a child. It didn’t matter that it was the outermost track of a casually used switch yard, it was still a main line to him. During Emery’s developing years, when he could afford a camera and film money, he moved to Dearborn, Michigan. Now he was in the big time–on a real main line! The Michigan Central ran through Dearborn, but in most circles it was known as The New York Central System. Most of this Odyssey is from film generated in Detroit and the adjacent vicinity. Next Emery’s interest trickled down to Ohio, predominantly Toledo, which is on the Central’s MAIN main line. After Toledo, Emery encountered locations in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. Witness the last days of steam on the NYC and see the emergence of early first generation diesels with the classic NYC logo!

NYC Odyssey Volume 2 – Part 1 & Part 2
Here’s the continuation of NYC Volume-1, starting in the summer of 1963. The transition to the Cigar Band Herald is quite evident. New jumbo Hi-Cube cars appear (for the auto industry) as well as piggyback service with highway trailers on flat cars. You’ll see action on the Toledo Division, the Electric Division, between New York’s Grand Central Station and Harman, as well as other locations. Also covered are the RDC Jet Trials, where jet aircraft engines are mounted on an RDC car! Mixed in with all this action is the continuing regular freight and passenger fleets, mile long trains of new auto loadings, as well as new second generation motive power. We finally arrive at the Penn-Central merger. We’ll see a few early views of merged power equipment, not yet revealing the demise of the mighty water level route!

  1. Lloyd

The New York Central, the largest rival of the Pennsylvania Railroad, is seen in the days of it’s glory. Late steam to early diesels dominates this production in many, but not all the regions & territory of the NYC. It is great that the history of this once eastern giant has been preserved for all us railfans to enjoy. Diffinately worth owning.

  2. Mwdonoughue

This program showcases the New York Central in all its glory, from the end of steam to right after the Penn Central merger. You’ll also see The General as it makes a special tour over the NYC in Michigan, along with a special Budd RDC Car with jet engines mounted on the roof.
