Noted railfan George Meyer began filiming Colorado railroading in the late 1930s. For over 3 decades he continued to film the drama of railroading in the High Country on the Denver & Rio Grande Western and Rio Grande Southern. Beginning in 1939, you’ll see Consolidations and Mikados in many locations along the famed D&RGW. Also, the Galloping Geese of the Rio Grande Southern. This is real action filmed in the days when Colorado railroads were running the San Juan, mixed trains to silverton, and freights with multiple engines and pushers.

With additional film by Dick Baldwin, David J. Williams III, and Ben T. Young Jr., you’ll visit such locations as Monarch Pass, Salida, Alamosa, Chama, Durango, Silverton and Farmington. You’ll see roundhouses, dual gauge freights, helpers, servicing and more on the D&RGW.
