Some of the great railfan locations include the Greenhorn Trestle with a westbound manifest headed up by BNSF power and then two MRL SD40-2Rs. Greenhorn “Gulch” where heavy westbounds are slowed by a 2.2 percent climb. Skyline Trestle where we see an eastbound grain empty on a beautiful summer day. Austin is where the famous (and spectacular) “Double Horseshoe” begins. Bozeman Tunnel – MRL SD45s lead a BNSF train. Birdseye, so named for the fantastic view on the trains. We also see Lombard Canyon, The West End, Tobin, Muir and much more.

There are lots & lots & lots of diesels in the Big Sky State on not only the Montana Rail Link itself, but also other Road Names like BNSF (with fallen flags Santa Fe & Burlington Northern), & Canadian Pacific.

Locations for Disc 1 include Helena, Austin (Not Texas), The Iron Ridge, Greenhorn Bridge, & the Skyline Trestle.

Locations for Disc 2 include more of the Skyline Trestle as well as the Summit of the Single Track Tunnel at Mullan itself with the West Slope, Blossburg, the East end near Muir Siding, Bozeman Pass, Lombard Canyon, & Toston.

Flawless video, big-time railroading and jaw-dropping scenery … three good reasons to include this program in your railfan video library. Stretch those reasons over three and a half hours and you’ve got a “must have” addition to any collection. The camerawork is rock-solid and creative, and showcases the setting as well as the trains; the narration is informative while leaving plenty of room for the sounds of the trains. This is a winner from start to finish, and one of the best bargains in railfan video today.
