Watch 611 work hard on the steep grades including Erlanger Hill in Northern Kentucky, plus the grades at Batavia, Peebles, and Seaman on the Cincinnati to Portsmouth Line. Besides a variety of excursions, there are some one-way moves, including a short freight train pulled by 611. We also witness the final time that 611 is turned on the Portsmouth wye, and enjoy some pacing scenes on the Columbus line. This new DVD program features an additional 14 minutes of material that was not included in the original VHS version. Norfolk Southern terminated their steam excursion program at the end of 1994, and 4-8-4 number 611 may never operate again. However our program will document many of the last runs of this magnificent locomotive as it steams through southern Ohio between 1992 and 1994.

This is one of my personal favorites of Greg Scholl. In this video, it shows the final runs of Norfolk and Western class J #611 on former N&W trackage in the Cincinnati area of Ohio between 1992 and 1994 as the 611 pulled trains for the Cincinnati railroad club trips and includes on what would turn out to be the last time between Cincinnati and Columbus via Portsmouth line on September 21, 1994 before the Norfolk Southern pulled the plug on the steam program the following month. As an added bonus to this video, Greg Scholl captured the last run of engine 1218 as it pulled a short train in 1991 and the 1993 trip with engine 611 as a lost tape was found after the original editing.

A nice comprehensive view of N&W #611’s 1994 operations in Ohio. Little did we know at the time that this would be the final year before the Norfolk Southern Steam Program was permanently terminated. Despite 611’s recent return in 2015 for a third career, this Greg Scholl classic is another beautiful trip down “memory lane” to much better days.

While Majority was shot in the Betacam years (June 1992-September 1994) There was Some JVC Era leftovers with 611 at Ludlow in 1990 In the Opening & Closing Credits, Plus 1218 In August of 1991 heading west on The Peavine line.
