Today’s Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad dates back to 1970, when Wesley Spear bought a tract of land that contained a 3/4 mile stretch of the original right of way of the Phillips and Rangeley Railroad. Later, that small stretch of right-of-way became a part of the NEW narrow gauge SR&RL Railroad. Using the latest in high definition equipment, Black 5 Video captured the railroad while operating ex-Monson RR Forney number 3 on weekend excursions during the 2007 season. You will see passenger and freight operations, a gandy dancer gang and a track inspection crew using a rebuilt Ford Fairmont motor car. What this railroad lacks in miles, it makes up for in character.
