From her display site on Horseshoe Curve to an excursion on the Nittany & Bald Eagle Railroad, this video gives you an in-depth look at a locomotive that was the keystone of the Pennsylvania Railroad’s mainline passenger service. We’ll show you a little history of the Pennsylvania Railroad, using some vintage 16mm color and black & white film.
You’ll see the 1361 removed from her Horseshoe Curve display site. Then it’s out on the road for 1361’s shakedown run and her first excursion. We’ll take you trackside for scores of dramatic runbys and pacing scenes.
After watching this 1918 graduate of Altoona’s Juniata Shops, we think you’ll agree, she is certainly “Juniata’s Jewel”.

Berkshire Productions is one of my personal favorite producers in railfan entertainment! This is defiantly one of their best ones, showing the PRR 1361 on it’s debut run. Due to how short lived it’s excursion career was, this is really one of the very few high-quality videos there is of this locomotive in operating condition. With the exciting progress to get the 1361 back into operation, now might be the best time to get this video!

In the Berkshire version of the short-lived revival of the K-4 pacific itself, there are not only vintage films of Pennsy Steam in regular service shot by Mr. Clarence Weaver, but also the footage of the engine being restored in Altoona as well as a test run to Bellfontaine Via Tyrone & back during April of 1987 which at the exact same time, Norfolk & Western 1218 was also restored to operating condition but like 1361, the excursion career of the Class A was also short-lived due to increased maintenance costs.
Aside from the Berkshire crew which some of these trackside scenes are also featured in the I Love Toy Trains Classic Series by TM Books & Video for mostly parts 5, 7, & 8, but also Mark 1 Video, & America By Rail creator Greg Scholl for the really rare & hard to find American Steam VHS from 1989, & later on the Pennsy Steam DVD from 2009.
All in all, aside from a lovely song played during the pacing scenes & the end credits, Mrs. Jill Wagner did a brilliant job narrating this recently turned 35 year old program while NKP 765 engineer Rich Melvin handles the Additional Editing Work.
