In this DVD you can pay a visit to the Indianapolis Subdivision and see the railroad as it passes through scenic southern Indiana and eastern Illinois. On this line, between Lis, Illinois and Indianapolis, you’ll see coal trains pulled by the handsome SD90’s, manifests, quaint small towns, a tunnel, and bridges, including the mammoth Richland Creek Viaduct, known worldwide as the “Tulip Trestle”. The Indianapolis Sub is all former Illinois Central trackage. This is most of the former IC line from Effingham to Indianapolis. The INRDs Chicago Sub is also available on DVD. Chapter Menu provides instant access to program segments. Watch the program with or without narration.

In the Indianapolis Subdivision installment of the IR series, there are a huge variety of diesels from the small SD40-2s to the mighty 9000 series SD9043MACs built at the exact turn of the century in 1999 & 2000 with other road names like HLCX leasing, Santa Fe, CITX, Union Pacific, CSX, & Montana Rail Link with an SD40-2 referenced to a Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 in the Minnesota Twin Cities.

Locations include downtown Indianapolis with a visit to the Senate Avenue Yard, Epler Ave at Dixie Siding with an unprotected crossing & a side trip to the Indianapolis Power & Light Plant with the Hanna Ave Crossing, Bluff Road Crossing, Pleasant Run Creek Bridge, Fairview Road bridge, Bargersville, Morgantown with some track work, Hornettown Road, Fruitdale Road, Hurdle Road, Railroad Road, Helmsburg, Bean Blossom Creek Bridge, Trevlac, Lemon Lake near Shuffle Creek Viaduct, the 500 foot long Unionville Tunnel Bloomington at Indiana University which the last time a passenger train stopped at the depot in town was in 1945, the Elletsville Spur, Rogers Stone Quarry, Solsberry, the Richland Creek Viaduct built in 1905 near Tulip, the Switz City locomotive house with the crossing of the Indiana Southern’s Spencer Sub, the Tridad Load-out, Linton where it crosses the Chicago Subdivision & occasionally switches subs as well, Dugger, Sullivan where it interchanges with CSX’s Evansville Sub, the Hoosier energy Lead, Riverton where it crosses the Wabash River on the Illinois State Line, Palestine (not in Ohio), Oblong, Willow Hill, Street Running at Newton, & ends at the Ameren Coal led.

While Les Jarrett does a magnificent job filming the action, the program itself was narrated by the late Lane Venardos.

Shortline railroads are the life line to many communities that the Class 1’s have forgotten. And the shortlines supply the Class 1’s with much of their business that competes against the truckers.
Here is a video that takes us to Mid-America in Indiana and Illinois where we can see a successful shortline with some heavy duty power, the SD90-43Mac’s that were acquired and are running with some fine looking trains.
This is one of Railway Productions finer videos. Maps of the territory are good, and the scenes of the region are well covered.

I believe that all railfans will enjoy this video. I did find that the kids took little interest however. I recommend it, as long as shortlines are your interest.
