You get two shows on on DVD with this program! In the first show Steam to Huntington, we see history made as three steam engines headed for the NRHS Convention in Huntington, West Virginia. Pentrex crews captured the action as the Pere Marquette 1225 departed Owosso, Michigan with a freight bound for Lima, Ohio. After Lima, Nickel Plate Railroad 765 led the two engines past their birthplace, double-heading on a freight train to Russell, Kentucky. You will ride along in the cab of the 765 as the two steam engines complete the last leg of their journey to Huntington. The N&W 1218 is also beautifully photographed as it makes a ferry move from Cincinnati to Portsmouth, Ohio, and on to the yard at Kenova, West Virginia.

In Huntington Steam Celebration we see all the big-time steam action as Pentrex crews cover the excursions of the 1991 NRHS convention held in Huntington, West Virginia. The four special trips were a great success and you’ll witness the lineside action as it was beautifully photographed. The 1218 is at its best working though the area in which it was built to run. The dramatic side by side running of the NKP 765 and Pere Marquette 1225 was the high point of the convention and Pentrex was there to capture this historic and spectacular event. These scenes will leave you breathless as you watch the two engines race down the double-tracked mainline.

This is a Pentrex Best Seller.

This combo DVD includes the ferry moves and excursions operated by the three participating steam locomotives at the NRHS Convention: N&W 2-6-6-4 #1218, NKP 2-8-4 #765 and PM 2-8-4 #1225.

  2. Curtis Watson

Truly a magnificent sight to see these two Big Berk’s working together! And a nice appearance by 1218 herself!

  3. Alexander Law

Whenever I see the 1225 in action I think of the Polar Express. Too bad the 1218 had a short life.

  4. jeremyschultz7

This was an unprecedented event, indeed… One which will most likely NEVER be repeated again… Norfolk and Western #1218 quietly sits on display at the Virginia Museum of Transportation, and both PM #1225/NKP #765 are currently not allowed to do any mainline trips as of now (2020). Don’t miss out on another well put together Pentrex program. This is one you DEFINITELY want in your railroad DVD collection!

  5. collinvarney24

This version definitely takes the cake for me because it show N&W 1218 and PM 1225 along with NKP 765 rolling through the new river gorge and operating on CSX trackage.

I haven’t seen any of these locomotives up close, but still a great program.

Besides the pentrex version of the 1218/765/1225 specials between 25-30 years earlier, Greg Scholl Video Productions, Mark 1, Main line Motion pictures, Goodheart Productions and Berkshire Productions, were also there to capture their own footages of one of the most Big American Steam Railroading Events of 1991. Of course you can’t go wrong with the Lima Ohio Built Berkshire Doubleheader on a Freight From their birthplace to The convention where one night there is a lightning storm, and also through the new river gorge. The 1991 NRHS convention was also one of the final trips for 1218 Due to maintenance costs, and after the 25th anniversary of the NS Steam Excursion Program the following November of that same year, 1218 had since been put back on display at the VMT in Roanoke.

Another great video from pentrex. Well worth the money. You won’t be disappointed.

  9. Ron Harber III

This is one of the highest NRHS conventions of all 1990s. I was not even a year old when the excursion trips took place. Pentrex, Mark I Video and Greg Scholl Video were probably the 3 biggest video crews to capture the historic event

Pentrex covered the action at the 1991 NRHS Convention in Huntington, West Virginia. Steam locomotives featured include Nickel Plate Road 765, Pere Marquette 1225, and Norfolk & Western 1218!

Pentrex did an excellent job documenting the action of the 1991 NRHS Convention. Having grown up around this area, it’s amazing what the Class 1s allowed to happen back then. A truly epic compilation. Highly recommended for anyone who lives mainline steam.
