Chicago’s busy Blue Island crossing sees trains from CSX, UP, BNSF, CP, CN, IHB and Iowa Interstate, with Metra crossing overhead in the background. The last manually operated crossing tower in the USA was in operation during our visit, but was recently (June 2013) closed and demolished.

A nice sequel to the first installment in Highball’s “Hot Spots” series, produced 14 years earlier. An interesting variety of railroads, locomotive types, paint schemes and consists. And Blue Island’s signature bridges are impressive, with or without trains! The videography is solid, the setting has character and the action is unbeatable. It’s everything you’d want in a great day of railfanning, without the waiting between trains.

Blue Island is one of Chicago’s busiest railroad locations. Most of the railroad companies pass through Blue Island. Unfortunately, this video does not do the location any justice. There is so much to see and be seen, yet the actual time not counting the bonus footage in the video was less than an hour. I expected better from this producer.

Another interesting Hot Spot video. Blue Island is a mega of rail activity, and this video shows it. Lots of different companies travelling through the area. A nice sequall to the 1st Blue Island video by this producer.

Nice video on a revisit to Blue Island with some older footage as well

I’ve been here and this is just as it really is. Enjoy this tape knowing that you are seeing the real thing! I rate this a must buy for anyone from the Chicago area.
