Muncie provides the rail enthusiast with both heavy CSX and Norfolk-Southern traffic. The CSX Line is the mainline between St. Louis and Cleveland in 2017 and 2018.

The Norfolk-Southern line sees traffic from Cincinnati to Ft. Wayne. To a lesser degree, trains also enter from Frankfort and Marion Indiana to the West and Lima Ohio to the East. CSX has placed new warning signs along their mainline track of more frequent and longer trains at their road crossings. We certainly found this to be so on our visits to Muncie. As depicted in this video you’ll see some trains that are as long as 2-3 miles. Most of the street crossings in Muncie have been blocked off. There are only 4 crossings at grade and one street ducks under the CSX and NS trackage.

Freight traffic at this location consisted of ethanol, grain, auto racks, auto parts, stack and general merchandise trains. To give the viewer additional viewing perspectives, awesome aerial and ground camera footage was used in the making of this program. Locomotives from CN, CP, and Kansas City Southern make cameo appearances.

Bonus Content Includes virtual flyovers created in Google Earth of our main photographic locations in the city of Muncie.

Big-time railroading with long, heavy trains … from trackside and above! The ground-level shots are well done, but the creative use of drone video gives a different perspective to the trains, the track configuration and the landscape. And there’s a lot to see: colorful locomotives from several railroads … primarily CSX and NS, with plenty of foreign power … and an interesting variety of consists keep you waiting to see what’s coming next. It’s a fine addition to any railfan video library.
