Few may realize that although Clark Gable was a Hollywood icon for years, he also served in World War II, more specifically as a captain in the 351st Bombardment Group. From the National Archives. This DVD offers two war-themed documentaries in which Gable participates – COMBAT AMERICA (1943), the tale of the 351st Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Force, as they segue from formalized training to combat missions over German skies. Clark Gable narrates and appears in this film. The second short feature is WINGS UP (1943), a look at the demanding training undergone by cadets at the Officers Candidate School of the U.S. Army Air Force. The latter features narration by Gable, William Holden, Gilbert Roland and Robert Preston.
