The Chicago Line is the former Conrail mainline from Chicago, IL to Cleveland and points east. Videographer Marshall Beecher captures exciting train action on the western section of the line between Hammond/Whiting and Goshen, Indiana.

Many scenes in this video were captured in the very last days of Conrail, just prior to “Big Blue’s” breakup into CSX & Norfolk Southern. You will also see other operations on the line as it is today, under the ownership of Norfolk Southern.

This busy corridor is also packed with other unique trains. Come along as we see several Amtrak trains including: The Pennsylvanian, Lake Shore Limited, and Capitol Limited. Images of a wide variety of run-through motive power are also captured from interchange partners Wisconsin Central, Union Pacific & Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Another unique feature of The Chicago Line is that it often parallels the Chicago South Shore South Bend Railroad. Our cameras also capture several interurban and freight trains on this line.

The sheer volume and variety of trains on The Chicago Line are impressive! Whether it’s locomotives of the old Conrail, or the current black beauties of Norfolk Southern, you will be amazed by the impressive power in “High Iron Across the Hoosier State”!

Here is a video with a lot of great train action. Many different freight companies are seen as well as Amtrak, VIA Rail Canada head end power, and commuter service east of Chicago Illinois into Indiana. Excellent video for all rail fans.
