The Guilford Rail System in the 1980?s was a very colorful railroad in the mid to late 1980?s. Go back in time and take a look at the railroad as it evolved between the years of 1984 and 1988.

Motive power from Maine Central, Boston and Maine, and the Delaware and Hudson are all seen, including some former Ex-Reading GP39-2?s that the D&H acquired in their 1976 expansion. Ex-Illinois Terminal SD39?s and Former Santa Fe SD26?s are also seen in operation prior to being painted into the standard Charcoal and Orange scheme of Guilford. Some real surprises are also seen, like Pittsburgh and Lake Erie U28B?s on a Bow, NH coal train, former Santa Fe CF7?s on an MBTA rail train and a former Rock Island U25B leading a road freight out of East Deerfield!

You will witness the many changes through the 4 years, with the gradual disappearance of B&M and Maine Central paint schemes through repainting?s and the sudden focus to standardized on 6 axle power is very apparent in this vidoe.

If you ever had a slight interest in far Northeastern railroading, then you will enjoy this video!

  1. Matt

Hands down the best Guilford DVD out there! At speed run bys, almost no yard action and tons of odd lashups. Plenty of D&H, B&M, MEC and freshly painted Guilford units roaming around. Bow coal trains are a real treat and lots of SD26 action! Totally worth every penny.

  2. Punxsutawney Bill

Gotta love the variety of Guilfords power in this time frame. SD35, U25Bs, SD26s and a host of other rare locomotives are seen.
