I absolutely loved this video! I live right by Grand Trunk trackage, and I even recognized some of the locations included in this video! I loved this video so much I already purchased GT-2! The only real complaint I got for this video is that the quality seems to be a little grainy, like it was ripped straight from a VHS, however that doesn’t bother me much since it adds to the 1980’s and 90’s experience in my opinion.

In Part 1 which was first released on VHS only in 1994, there is a parade of action in Northeastern Illinois, Northwestern Indiana, & Southwestern Michigan.

Locations include Hayford Crossing, the Bridges of Blue Island Junction, Harvey, Griffith Tower, Valparaiso Indiana, east of Pascals, Wellsboro, Kingsbury, Stillwell, Fish Lake, Arnold Street near South Bend Union Station, High Street Junction, St. Joseph River Bridge near Mishawaka Michigan, Cassopolis, Waklee, School Craft with Conrail’s Kalamazoo Branch, Simpson’s Mill Pond at Vicksburg, Indian Lake, Pavillion, Gord Interlocking, & Battle Creek with the new Emmett Street Yard, & a helicopter ride over the city while the song “Come on Baby let the good times roll” by Shirley & Lee in 1956. Battle Creek is also the headquarters for Purina Dog Food, & Kellogg’s Cereal. At one time GTW 4-8-4 number 6325 used to be on display there before it was moved to Sugar Creek Ohio.

Aside from the Grand Trunk itself, there are other road names like the Chicago & Northwestern (one unit leased to NRE), Canadian National with Jordan Spreader 50945 at Cassopolis in warmer weather, Iowa Interstate, Illinois Central Gulf, CSX with an Operation Red Book Bay Window Caboose & 8 units on the same freight, Union Pacific, Chessie System, the NW2s of the Indiana Harbor Belt, Canadian Pacific, Milwaukee Road, Soo Line, Norfolk Southern, Metra Commuter, Illinois Central, Amtrak, Seaboard System, Burlington Northern, LMX, General Motors, VIA rail, & Conrail.

One Grand Trunk unit number 5702 is referenced to Boco the diesel from the classic series of the Thomas the Tank Engine TV Show.

I have seen this entire series several times. Its one that you can go back and re-watch. I have to give this person credit for their excellent videography skills. Grand Trunk Western is a rare thing to see on video but this series takes you through the entire GTW system in great detail. A lot of GTW blue with a few CN locomotives dating it in the early ’90s. There was also a fare amount of BN green on coal trains. Defiantly worth buying the whole series.

I have the entire Grand Trunk series from Clear Block Productions. They have done a great job with this. It really is a complete look at the Grand Trunk Western. Lots of nice tape from they hey-day of the GTW. Thank you to Clear Block for making this available.
