This is one of the busiest freight and passenger trunk routes in the country with a never-ending procession of trains powered by a wide variety of locomotives. Situated in the central part of the country on the North-South mainline it is a vital link to the North Sea ports at Bremerhaven and Hamburg as well as many other locations in the industrial Rhur. It links the south of the country as well as onwards into Austria, Italy and Eastern Europe. This program takes a snapshot of the types of trains to be seen in 2017, beginning with a look at the action on Fulda station before heading into the countryside to view the trains from a number of photographic vantage points, before finishing up at Bad Hersfeld. Classes 120, 143, 145, 147, 152, 182, 185, 186, 187, 189, 193, 212, 401, 402, 411, 412, 415, 427, 428, G1206, 232 and OBB 1116 are all included. Most types of freight is seen from the many container services to long mixed wagonload freight, car component services, engineering trains, chemical and oil workings, to block trains of aggregates. On the passenger side a wide variety of ICE trainsets are seen including class 401, 402 and one of the new ICE4s.
