We begin on Conrail’s Otis Hill. Otis Hill is a 10 mile steady climb up a 1% grade on the ex-NYC double track main across northern Indiana. Next we move to Ogden Dunes which is located between Gary and Burns Harbor. Ogden Dunes is a small shelter stop on the South Shore railroad which has its track on the south side of the Conrail main.

The Conrail main at this location allows trackage rights to CP Rail, CSX and Indiana Harbor Belt. With a large amount of intermodal traffic heading east, and all of the traffic running between yards in Chicago and Conrail’s Elkhart Yard, there is plenty of action from UP, BN, SP and AT&SF. Snow starts falling as we stop by Wellsboro to check out the CSX/GTW diamond. At La Porte we catch several moves before we head on to Arnold Street in South Bend. As the intensity of the snow increases, we have a surprise at the New Carlisle cemetery as the BN “Pulling for Freedom” unit rolls through the S-curve.

On the included second program we spend an entire day in downtown Indianapolis at IU Tower on Sunday, September 26,1993. On that day the NKP #765 came to town disguised as the Chesapeake and Ohio #2765. It was chartered by a group from Cincinnati. It was a passenger train of mixed road name cars with about 1100 people on-board departing at the Indy Union Station. It came and returned via ex-B&O trackage, now belonging to CSX. All movements running by IU Tower are indicated by time of day and train identity.
