The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad was born when the ICC granted the D&RGW permission to abandon the narrow gauge lines in Southern Colorado and New Mexico. The Silverton line continued to operate under new management and Colorado and New Mexico bought the line between Antonito and Chama thus saving this historic and scenic narrow gauge line.
In this program, you’re trackside and onboard as D&RGW 2-8-2 #482 pulls an excursion train over spectacular mountain scenery to Cumbres. It clings to the side of Toltec Gorge, then crosses Cascade Creek Trestle. There is also a rare black & white vintage sequence showing a rotary clearing snow at Cumbres.
Filmed on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in Colorado and New Mexico, this Documentary won the 1976 “Golden Eagle” award for excellence.
