CSX over Sand Patch Cumberland to Meyersdale

The Baltimore and Ohio’s Keystone Sub had one of the toughest grades in North America. It also was – and is – very photogenic. Chester Kamuda spent ten years documenting the line from Cumberland, Maryland through to Meyersdale, Pennsylvania. He also caught trains at Hyndman, Pennsylvania, with the tower still operational, at Fairhope and Mance, Pennsylvania and at Sand Patch. Kamuda was even able to film from inside Viaduct Junction tower in Cumberland and in Sand Patch Tower. We also get to see the Western Maryland’s Keystone and Salisbury Viaducts. Heavy traffic results in lots of action scenes as long freights struggled up the famous hill!
