Northwest Ohio provides the train enthusiast ideal locations to watch busy railroad train action. Two well known sites are actually railfan parks. Those parks areDeshler and Fostoria. A third location, which is not officially a railfan park, is the location of this video. We’re talking the north side of Leipsic Ohio.
Access to the diamond is in the Southwest quadrant of the junction. There you will find ample parking space and no fences to impede your view. We spent two days at Leipsic in May of 2019 and were rewarded with plenty of train action on both CSX and Norfolk Southern. The ex-B&O, now CSX line runs between Detroit and Cincinnati. The ex-Nickel Plate, now Norfolk-Southern line, stretches from Ft. Wayne IN to Bellevue Ohio.
Major industries are located north of the diamond and include the IAMS cat and dog food plant, Pro-Tec high grade steel processing plant for automobiles, and an ethanol plant. Both CSX and NS serve these major industries. you’ll witness a local NS train switching both the Pro-Tec steel and the ethanol plants. you’ll watch monster trains, some over two miles in length, ram the diamond at Leipsic Jct. Some CSX trains will have mid or rear end remote controlled helper locomotives.
Along with Dynamic audio, this program includes many unique Aerial video shots throughout the program, all video in this program was acquired using 4K video cameras for the ultimate Sharpness and Color.

Don’t get me wrong Leipsic is a fun spot to foam but this production was a bore with some not so awesome camera work thrown in. There are a few shots both from the ground and the drone that were far from centered, on top of janky/jerky drone movements. I get that its difficult to simultaneously film from the ground as well as operate a drone but that’s why you bring another person with you. Train symbols/numbers are included as they pass by. Audio is good. If this was a YouTube video this wouldn’t be too bad, for a $24.95 DVD (Railfan Depot normal price of $29.95) this is not so great. Very leery of Green Frog Productions moving forward.

For railfans, few things are as exciting as a diamond that sees a steady parade of heavy, modern trains. And Green Frog has done a superb job capturing the action at Leipsic Junction. Flawless ground-level and drone footage is creatively edited to provide a fascinating look at the trains and the setting. Some of America’s most well-known trainwatching hotspots can be found in Ohio … Fostoria, Marion, Berea, Lima, Deshler and Bellevue, to name a few. And Leipsic Junction deserves a spot on that elite list.
