Kenova, West Virginia is one busy town when it comes to railroading. CSXT’s ex C&O line runs through here, hosting lots of coal trains and others. Crossing over the CSXT tracks, its own secondary tracks, The Ohio River, and much of Kenova on a massive bridge is the NS Pocahontas District hosting many trains of its own. Kenova also has a small yard which is base for NS local jobs in the area. Moving one town to the west we watch action at Catlettsburg, Kentucky, Where CSXT’s Big Sandy Subdivision meets with the main line, forming a triple track railroad until reaching the yards at Russell, Kentucky!

A scenic setting and non-stop trains … it’s the formula for some great railfanning! Contemporary NS and CSX railroading when it was shot more than 20 years ago, this video is now a nice look back at locomotive types, paint schemes and consists from nearly a generation ago. The videography is well done, camera locations are creative and there’s always something exciting coming down the line.

It`s great to be able to watch lots of trains in a fairly near area . That is what we have here. 2 fine locations…. a river apart. Railfans will have a great time watching this video. With variety and scenery…. another tough one to beat.
