CSX’s Chicago Hub operates out of six terminals in the region. It will take two programs to get a good handle on the operations of this Midwest Hub. In Volume 2 we will see the CSX Barr Yard at Dolton. All of the major roads funnel through Dolton Crossing. We also visit area hot spots Chicago Heights, Watseka and Woodland Junction.

These trains and locations were shot between 1998 and 1999 and we’ll see the first effects of the split that gave Conrail lines to CSX and Norfolk Southern.

This is vintage nineties footage, shot using nineties equipment. It is not as sharp as programs shot today. Still, these are interesting scenes, many not covered elsewhere, and the narration is informative and top notch.

In part 2 of the CSX Midwest Hub Series which was first released on VHS only in late 1999, there is a never-ending parade of diesels in the greater southern Chicago area between 1995 & after May/June 1999 at locations like Woodland Junction where the CSX/Union Pacific Joint line splits, Watseka Diamond where it crosses the Toledo Peoria & Western, Jay Tower at Chicago Heights, & a bunch at Dolton Crossing.

A massive mix of motive power is featured such as B40-8s, C30-7s, C40-8s, Dash 8-40CWs, SD40-2s, AC6000CWs, GP35s, A GP15, an SW1500, & SD60s. Plus, Amtrak’s City of New Orleans led by a single Genesis unit known as the AMD-103.
