The section of railroad known as the Clinchfield (now CSX) Loops is one of the most scenic railroad spots in the eastern US. This is the former Clinchfield Railroad between Servier and Altapass: 21 miles with 17 tunnels and rock cuts and big loops of track. T&W Productions visits the Loops where CSX now pulls heavy freight over this track. The Clinchfield/CSX needed these tunnels and loops to gain elevation in order to get over the mountain. 21 miles of railroad track only gets you 4 miles as ‘the crow flies’!
