The Charlotte Subdivision is home to merchandise and heavy coal trains traveling between the Blue Ridge Subdivision (ex Clinchfield) at Bostic and the Monroe Subdivision (Seaboard’s Hamlet to Atlanta Main) at Monroe, in North Carolina. This is also an important route for coal trains originating in Kentucky to power plants in North and South Carolina. Over 40 trains are documented, many with CSX’s impressive AC6000CW locomotives.
Video locations include Bostic, Shelby, Cherryville, Lincolnton, Mount Holly, Charlotte, Matthews, Monroe NC among many others. The program also features the numerous historic depots that still stand along the line. Included is a fold out map and timetable so that you can follow along across the “Old North State”.

Nice scenery, excellent photography and hardworking trains! Primarily coal and merchandise, most trains are shown in their entirety. The camerawork is well done and shooting locations are well chosen, and there are some nice shots of scenic highlights that capture the “personality” of the line”! There’s no narration, but on-screen graphics give train, date and location information, and that leaves plenty of room for the sound of the trains … and they sound great!
