This is the Kingsport Subdivision of CSX Transportation. Tapping the rich coalfields of western Virginia and Eastern Kentucky is why this railroad was built in 1905. This purpose has not changed today. In this program the R-line Video camera captures the action along CSX’s ex Clinchfield route between Dante, Virginia and Frisco, Tennessee. The route roughly follows the valley of the Clinch River to keep the grades at a minimum for the giant coal trains that traverse this important route.

St. Paul, Virginia is one of the many locations that is featured. Here the CSX and Norfolk Southern Clinch Valley Line intersect at a very interesting junction. The spectacular railroad landmark Copper Creek Viaduct is visited. Great scenery with autumn colors and heavy duty Clinchfield coal train railroading is a combination you’ll enjoy.

  1. Dan

Great photography, beautiful scenery and the gritty sound of hardworking trains. This program made me a fan of R-Line Video! It’s primarily coal traffic, as you would expect from an ex-Clinchfield route. Most trains are shown in their entirety, and while there’s no narration, on-screen graphics provide train, date and location information. This was my first purchase of an R-Line video. I’ve since added others, and enjoy them all.

  2. Lloyd.

an impressive look at some of the eastern America coal lines of the CSX & NS. I always enjoy it when the 2 companies are close and this video does not disappoint. Junctions are exciting to watch as the trains pound the diamonds, and the producer does a fine job getting it. Add in the great scenery and we have an excellent video for the library to be enjoyed for years to come.
