The Boston & Albany line was one of the first successful lines in the country – and its tracks still host trains today. The B&A was eventually absorbed into the New York Central. The NYC became part of the Penn Central and the failure of that railroad changed railroading in the northeast forever. The old B&A line became Conrail’s Boston Line. This program covers the B&A mainline under Conrail in the 1990s. We start at Charlton Depot and work west through West Warren, West Springfield, Chester, Hinsdale, Pittsfield and on to Selkirk Yard. Three other A&R Productions DVDs also cover the former B&A, “The B&A through a Trainman’s Eyes”, “Whistlers Western, Volume 1” takes us back to the days of steam and “Whistlers Western, Volume 2” covers the action when the Penn Central ran things.
