Conrail is on the move again with Green Frog Productions’ video coverage of the busy mainline between Pittsburgh and Crestline, Ohio. This active line sees 60 trains per day, and we visit over 20 locations. This was once the main line west from Pittsburgh for the Pennsylvania Railroad, home to some of the heaviest duty railroading in America.
br>The eastern half of this line is mountainous terrain. Big Blue pulsating power provides helper service through Highland Cut. Almost 4000 cars a day are classified at Conway Yard – Conrail’s largest yard. At Crestline, we’ll see Triple Crown trailers being interchanged between rail and highway service. Conrail as an independent entity could be in its final year as other railroads are seeking to buy it out. Watch history in the making as the big blue locomotives of Conrail roll out their final days. Locals and mainline, shortlines and pool power – it’s all here in broadcast quality video and dynamic digital stereo sound.

In volume 3 which was originally released in 1997, there are even more diesels on old big blue before it was owned by both CSX & Norfolk Southern at locations like Pittsburgh Pennsylvania (home of Mister Roger’s Neighborhood on PBS), McKey’s Rocks, Ben Avon, Emsworth Dam on the Ohio River, Haysville, Swickley Station with a subliminal statue, Bayden, Conway Yard, Rochester, New Brighton, Beaver Falls, Highland, Enon Valley, East Palestine Ohio which was filmed years before the February 2023 disaster in that town, Columbiana, Letonia, Yankee Crossing, Alliance, Canton, Mesalon, Wooster, Loudinville, Mansfield, & Crestline Junction.

There are also some more road names like the Port Authority Light Rail System, LMS, Alequipa & Southern, CSX, Santa Fe, Union Pacific, Ohio Central with GP40 number 3216 before the railroad was purchased by Genesee & Wyoming, & the Loram Rail Grinder. Plus, there is also the Lilly Belle Steam Paddle Boat.
