Come along for a look at Conrail in its prime during the first half of the 1990’s on former Pennsylvania Railroad lines in Illinois and Pennsylvania.
br>The action starts at Smithboro, Illinois, on the former P.R.R. St. Louis line, before moving east to St. Elmo, Altamont, Effingham, and Teutopolis. Plenty of freight trains are seen, along with Conrail’s MAIL and TV hotshot trains.
br>From there, we move into the heart of the old P.R.R. in the Allegheny Mountains. After a brief stop at Alto Tower in Altoona, we move up the mountain to Horseshoe Curve. The scenes at the curve were shot in 1994, and include several meets, helper moves, coal, intermodal and manifest freights. A rare Roadrailer train was also captured. Amtrak trains are also seen, including the Broadway Limited.
br>This was Conrail at its peak as a successful and profitable railroad!

This was my first video from Diverging Clear Productions and I wasn’t disappointed. The first part was the line to St. Louis. Many trains were shown and location and train symbols were shown or verbally announced. Entire trains weren’t shown but enough to get an idea of the freight pulled. Seeing four GP15-1s pulling a freight was interesting.
Jumping to Altoona, the action was slower but no less interesting. Altoona was shown for a short time then the camera moved to Horseshoe Curve. Some shots from down near the visitor center but most in the viewing area. There was fog at the beginning which made it interesting to watch. It cleared up later but the action continued. Multiple train meets were seen. It was great to see SD45-2s in action. Amtrak also made an appearance.

I would recommend this video and look forward to my next DCP videos.
