In this program we witness a dynamic Fallen Flag, Conrail, captured in 1995 at various locations on the Harrisburg Line and the Pittsburgh Line. We first spend an afternoon/evening at Wernersville before venturing out on the Pittsburgh Line at Bailey Run, Mexico Farm Road Crossing (otherwise known as Book’s Crossing named after farm owner there), Mattawanna, and Huntingdon. You will see a great variety of shiny blue locomotives (with their Leslie RS3L horns that were so common on Conrail but not very common on today’s railroads) powering all kinds of trains.

We also include a brief visit to the East Broad Top Railroad with its narrow gauge steam operation and the Rockhill Trolley Museum both based in Orbisonia, Pennsylvania. A special bonus at the end of this program features a 1995 summer Sunday evening of action at Oakdale, NY on the Long Island Railroad witnessing GP38-2’s hauling trains from the Hampton’s as well as MP15, FA, and F-unit power cars on the local trains.

There are many Conrail trains shown in this video. Panning of trains is minimal as most footage is still camera shooting the train coming toward the Photographer, going away, and some broadside. A single train is usually broken into views of all three which is nice. Most of the train is shown, if not all but as they are moving fast, it’s nice. Most trains are identified as are locations and times. Some shots are at night and although most are still visible, some are kind of dark and hard to see, but I was watching this on a sunny day so the room was bright. I will watch it at night and I’m sure it will be better.

A side trip to the East Broad Top and Rockhill Trolley Museum are show. An EBT train is shown along with a small brush fire it leaves behind. I wonder if the photographer put it out or if it just burned out itself!

This is a good video for anyone who likes Conrail or freight action in general. I would like to see other years of Conrail in PA made (hint, hint!)
