Railroading “hot spots” are where railfans can see many trains in a short amount of time. Here are those places on the now-fallen-flag Conrail system.
Looking East> the first volume in this series gives us sixteen great eastern hot spots: CP Five and CP Potter, New Jersey; Bear Mountain, Selkirk Yard, State Line Tunnel, Syracuse, Lyons, Buffalo, and Binghamton, New York; Allentown, Reading, Rockville Bridge, Horse Shoe Curve, Conpit Jct., and Rochester Tower, Pennsylvania; and Palmer, Massachusetts.
In the West locations in Ohio include Ashtabula, Alliance, Crestline, the Cleveland Drawbridge, Berea Tower, Galion, Marion, Port Clinton, Toledo, and Ridgeway. Indiana sites include Elkhart, South Bend, Porter, Hammond, Muncie, and Terre Haute and in Illinois the action is at St. Elmo and Effingham.
