Steam to Sacramento
Four of the largest steam locomotives attending Railfair ’91 in Sacramento, California, arrived pulling special trains. Pentrex captured some fantastic images of steam at work as the engines headed for the exciting West Coast event.

Union Pacific 844 and the 3985 departed Cheyenne, Wyoming for California on April 15. Pentrex followed the entire route of these magnificent machines as they doubleheaded on their way west. Pentrex crews also captured Southern Pacific Daylight engine 4449 on its two-day trip from Portland, Oregon to Sacramento. The engine makes a magnificent sight as it works through the mountains of Oregon and California.

Experience the excitement as Southern Pacific 2472, a Pacific type engine, makes its first run following a lengthy restoration. Later, Southern Pacific engines 2472 and 4449 double-headed an excursion train to Oakland, California. That was the first time steam engines had double-headed on the Southern Pacific in many years.

Sacramento Railfair 1991
The California State Railroad Museum celebrated its 10th anniversary in fine style by inviting dozens of locomotives to Sacramento.

Pentrex was there to capture the event and provide you with all the sights and sounds of this special occasion. Sit back and enjoy a close-up look at each of the locomotives attending. Interviews with the crews provide information about their locomotives and the adventures they experienced traveling to Railfair. Also visit the entire Railfair complex, including the museum and behind-the-scenes action.

No one else can provide you with the coverage that we gathered with our numerous camera crews and years of experience. This DVD will become a collector’s item that everyone will treasure for years to come.

If you would like double the fun, then purchase this double DVD deal! The ULTIMATE Railfair 1991 experience! 🙂
If you would like to see my opinion on each of these programs, which I purchased here on RailfanDepot and have watched all the way through about 3 or 4 times now, then please go to each production listing individually and read my review. 🙂
I will not be redundant by just copying and pasting here the content from those.

This two-in-one package is well worth the amount of footage you get! Spectacular coverage of the locomotives’ journeys to Sacramento, and of the event itself. One of the greatest railroad events in history on two great programs!

  3. collinvarney24

Absolutely marvelous the segments of 844 & 3985 rolling through the snowfalls of Nevada and onto the feather river canyon. The doubleheader excursion with SP 2472 and 4449 to Oakland is spectacular as for the rail fair 1991 event in Sacramento was great with the oldest locomotives under steam as well with some far away visitors from the B&O Railroad museum and the United Kingdom.

30 years ago, the California State Railroad Museum held its ultimate 10th anniversary party which was held from May 3-12. Not only there are interviews with the crewmembers of their own locomotives included, but there are also Segments of 844, 3985, 4449, & 2472 heading to the Museum. Not to mention a Doubleheaded Excursion with 2472 & 4449 to Oakland. At the Same time as the CSRM held its Week long event, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic have Re-activated Rotary Snowplow OY for the very first time since 1983.
