In the 1940s, Rocky Mountain Railroad Club member Otto Perry and railroad photographer Woodrow Gorman captured the last remains of the once vast Colorado & Southern Narrow Gauge System on film. Scenes on the dramatic Clear Creek Line cover the Idaho Springs and Blackhawk/Central branches. Current footage of the rebuilt Georgetown Loop is included and vintage photos add another dimension to this program. The last remnant of the South Park Line from Leadville to Climax is shown just prior to standard gauging.
Joshua Craig Beytien (railfan/artiste’/business man) –
This program was pretty good – it looks almost like the branch lines of the San Juan Expansion, filled with a few spots of mining and industry villages. But the dismantling-line and abandonment breaks my heart of what should have been a place where people come and see the trains in ‘real’ action.
Chase –
Great footage on the C&S mainly in the Clear Creek canyon and a little on the Climax branch. See the railroad in its final years working trains up to Black Hawk and Central City. See how the railroad was crammed between the highway and the river in the final years before abandonment. Must have for C&S narrow gauge fans!
