1980 was the year we saw the revival of former C&O 4-8-4 number 614 return to steam and power the Chessie Safety Express excursions. Superb action scenes make you wish you were back there 30 years ago to see this great action.
It took the destruction of Reading 2101 in a fire the spring of 1979 to resurrect 614, a Greenbriar class 4-8-4 that had formerly operated on the Chesapeake and Ohio. 614 history is recounted and by the fall of 1980 #614 was ready and she traveled to Harpers Ferry, Cumberland, 17 Mile Grade, Sand Patch, Richmond, Balcony Falls, Clifton Forge, Huntington, Charleston, and New River trains to Hinton.
