At 3,711 feet above sea level and with gradual approaches on both sides, Yellowhead Pass is the ideal railway passage of Canada’s Rocky Mountains.

Canadian National utilizes this strategic crossing of the continental divide marking the provincial boundary of British Columbia and Alberta. The railway is busy with intermodal traffic heading to and from west coast ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert, BC. The rails stay polished with unit grain and coal trains heading for export, numerous mixed merchandise trains, and Via Rail passenger trains sporting sleek silver dome cars.

See this incredibly beautiful line from Hinton, Alberta, to Red Pass, British Columbia.

A good deal of the route traverses the picturesque setting of Jasper National Park. 7idea Productions made two trips to the Yellowhead Country and our cameras captured its natural beauty in both summer and winter. Join us for a spectacular railfan adventure you won’t soon forget!

The jaw-dropping scenery of Yellowhead Pass is reason enough to add this program to your railfan video library; the trains make it a “must have”. As always, 7idea’s videography is flawless, and the creative mix of summer and winter shots is exceptional, You’ll see a nice cross-section of the CN locomotive roster and an interesting variety of freight consists, and Via Rail passenger trains are a nice bonus. A number of producers have done programs on Kicking Horse Pass, and I’ve enjoyed them all. But thanks to 7idea’s flair for video storytelling, this might be the best.

  2. Lloyd

Another smash hit for this producer. Aaron did a superb job covering the region through Jasper National Park and west to Red Pass (Moose Lake BC). This is CN’s transcon carrying trains to & from 2 major Pacific ports. Also are the VIA Rail Canada trains to/from Toronto/Vancouver & Jasper/Prince Rupert. Got to love the winter scenes. Aaron needs to be commended for travelling to this region in the winter as it can be challenging. Fantastic video
