An average Railfan’s visit to Western Canada wouldn’t be complete without a comprehensive look at both the Thompson & Fraser River Canyon routes for a huge parade of great diesel action on both Canadian Pacific & Canadian National at locations like Hope, Yale, Cisco bridge at MP104, Spences Bridge, Ashcroft, Kamloops, Boston Bend, Milepost 37, MP33, MP32, MP29, the twin Tunnels at MP26, MP18, MP19, MP15 at Spuzzum, MP12, MP14, MP10 at Komo, MP2 at Hicks bridge, MP121 at North Bend with a snowplow stored on a siding, MP126, MP124 Viaduct, MP122 at Martinson, 9 mile creek tunnel at MP120 on the Ainsley Creek Viaduct with a since-retired GMD-1, MP104 at Kanaka, MP106 at Falls creek, MP96 at Lasha, Rexum Tunnel, MP91 at Gosset Tunnel, MP89 at Pitquah, MP86 at Thompson, MP85, MP80 at the Skoonah Rock Sheds, MP71, MP73, MP72, MP68 at Martel, MP60 at Spatsum, MP49, MP52 at Cornwall Creek Tunnel, MP47, MP46, Walhachin siding, & others, with some other road names shown on occasion like the Rocky Mountaineer, CEFX, BC Rail, Illinois Central, & even a high-rail truck with the Sperry Rail Service motorcar stored in Ashcroft.

Another excellent Highball Production. Here is a video that is maybe the finest ever made of this region in Canada. The scenery shots are excellent. The territory is well covered. The trains that transverse the region are well documented. The producer has done a very good job at video taping the subject. As I watched the video, I found it so very much enjoyable.
The only thing that I found disappointing was the place of finish of the video. Canadian National and Canadian Pacific either share track, or run close together all the way, but the producer stops 30km short of Kamloops British Columbia where the 2 major railways split apart with CN heading for Yellowhead Pass and CP heading for Kicking Horse Pass. That final 30km is as interesting as the entire 2 lines, yet it is not seen. Aside from the ending, this is a highly recommended production that all rail fans will enjoy.

The scenery is spectacular. Most trains are shown from high vantage points which makes it look like you are watching a model railroad. There are also a lot of ground level views as well. Narration can be turned on or off and there isn’t a lot throughout the DVD. This is a great video showing two Canadian railroads and a very scenic part of Canada.
