Take a ride on the California Zephyr, the “Silver Lady”, the epitome of streamlined passenger train luxury. This footage from the late 1960s takes you from Oakland by the San Francisco Bay eastward toward Chicago. Three rail lines combined efforts to create this trans-continental “rail cruise” – the Western Pacific, The Denver and Rio Grande Western and finally from Denver to Chicago the Burlington Route.
This DVD concentrates on the most scenic portion of the trip from the Pacific over the Rocky Mountains, but takes you all the way to Chicago. See the views from the Vista Domes as though you were on the train snaking up the Feather River Canyon, cresting Soldier Summit in Utah or following the Colorado River up toward the top of the Rockies. Wow, wow, wow, this Dvd brings back memories when I used to travel on this train, what an experience. The trip from Oakland thru San Francisco on to Chicago is just amazing. The scenery is not bad either. Well worth the money.

What a fantastic Dvd. Back in the 1960’s that is when rail travel was so good. The scenery on this film is so beautiful. The narration and the graphics are fantastic. For anyone who lives rail travel this movie is for you. 5 stars to this one.

What can you say about the California Zephyr. It is an iconic and one of the most classy trains in history and this documentary DVD does it justice in both its photography and narration. A must have for all California Zephyr fans as well as all rail fans in general.
