The B&P runs between Buffalo and Eidenau – just north of Pittsburgh – with branches and affiliated roads along the way. You’ll see big SD45 diesels hauling coal and manifest traffic through the scenic hills and valleys of Pennsylvania and New York – these ex-SP monsters really put on a great show. This video was shot in July, 1998, mostly between Salamanca and Punxsutawney on the B&P main. We do get a side trip to the Allegheny RR between Warren and Erie and see with a 3 unit GP38/40 lashup on the ARR.

When considering this video, something to remember: This is a shortline roughly 325 km long. Trains are not as common as on a mainline class 1, and they will not be hitting speeds of 110 km/hr either. It’s a beautiful scenic route between the 2 cities the line is named after. And the trains are interesting to see, even if some appear more than once at a different location. Added to the video is a look at the Allegheny Railroad which is also worth seeing. I give the producer credit for making this video. It is as interesting as the scenery seen in it.

COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE “BUFFALO & EIDENAU. SEE THE HUDGE SD-45 DIESEL CARING LOADS OF COAL. SEE GREAT SCENERY IN BOTH BUFFALO AND PITTSBURG. ALSO TRAVEL ON THE ALLEGHENY RAILROAD FROM WARREN TO ERIE. 5 STARS AND 75 MINUTES LONG.
