BNSF in the Arizona Forest: Before the Pumpkins Through one of the most unique areas in Arizona, watch the BNSF host a parade of trains! We filmed this program in October of 1996, and were completely overwhelmed by the beauty and fast-paced drama of this section of railroad. This program focuses on the beautiful stretch through the Coconino & Kaibab National Forests, where small Junipers and Sagebrush give way to majestic Ponderosa Pines! Plenty of Warbonnets, Yellow Bonnets, and several paint schemes from the Burlington Northern are the stars of this show!

BNSF: Return to the Arizona Forest BNSF’s Seligman Subdivision offers some of the best scenery on the entire transcontinental mainline. The 84 mile stretch through the Kaibab and Coconino National forests is a highlight. Eight years after our first trip to the Arizona Forest, we return for another look at the action. many changes had occurred, but the one constant is the great railroad show put on by The BNSF! As the elevation climbs to over 7000 feet, the desert morphs into a beautiful pine forest! As many as 80 trains per day operate on this line, providing almost non-stop action!

  1. Dan

A fantastic two-program set that chronicles the impact of the BNSF merger on a scenic stretch of heavy-duty railroad. While the first program is “pumpkin free” and features a variety of pre-merger locomotive paint schemes, “Return” includes many of those same schemes plus locomotives wearing the colors of the newly merged BNSF. Flawless videography, a beautiful setting, and a great look at one of the most exciting eras in modern American railroading. And for what you get … two programs, three discs, more than four hours… it’s a bargain!
