BNSF Railway’s Gateway Subdivision stretches 203 miles between Klamath Falls, Oregon and Keddie, California.
This remote line traverses the semi-arid high country of extreme northern California meeting Union Pacific’s route through the Feather River Canyon at the famous Keddie Wye. The southern Cascades and northern Sierra Nevada mountain ranges offer both scenic vistas and many challenges for railroaders who work here. Much of this is former Western Pacific trackage that went to BNSF with the UP/SP merger.
Shot in all seasons, our cameras show trains pounding the diamond at Stronghold, enduring icy winter conditions at Lookout, climbing mountain grades of up to 2.2% near Almanor and nearly stalling while climbing out of the Feather River Canyon!

Heavy-duty, contemporary railroading at its best … powerful locomotives pulling long trains through a landscape that is both demanding and beautiful. The videography is flawless and artistic, the sound and lighting help create a “mood”, and well-done narration ties it all together. And footage from different seasons does a nice job showing the challenges changing weather conditions pose to train crews. A nice addition to any railfan video library.

While many shots were nice and the trains were good, the narrators voice was painfully annoying and for me that causes the video to not be enjoyable.

Great Video
