The “Western Heritage Tour” of Union Pacific steam engine 844 rolled through many cities and towns that witnessed the birth of the transcontinental railroad. The 844, a Northern Class steam locomotive, made special stops in eight cities across Utah, Nevada and California for the public to see this giant steam locomotive. The trip to California included the Centennial celebrations of the City of Roseville and the Western Pacific Railroad. BA Productions used multiple camera crews to capture the amazing trip over Donner, then through the Feather River Canyon while on board 844. Crisscrossed by lakes, streams and rivers, the Sierras served as a scenic backdrop for Old number 844, a living breathing creature that carefully navigates the regions creeks and canyons on a ribbon of iron rail. On its journey, thousands of spectators gathered to watch it glide by. See interviews with engineer Steve Lee, Fireman Rick Braunschweig, Machinist Ed Smith and many more, who tell the amazing story about what it takes to run this premier steam locomotive on a class 1 railroad!

In the BA productions version of 844’s Spring 2009 tour in California, there are interviews with Engineer Steve Lee, Fireman Edward Dickens, & others, as well as stock footage from Steam Over Donner with Challenger 3985 in May of 1999, as the duo Double-heads to the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento for June’s Railfair ’99.
A handful of other producers like Pentrex, 7Idea, TSG Multimedia, & even Railway Productions were also there for the 1944 ALCO Built Northern’s Spring 2009 trip to Utah, Nevada, & California.

Just got this program, it is great. Enjoyed the interviews. Clean HD Footage. Covers more than the Pentrex program. Enjoyed the scene at Keddie Wye. Narration is good as well.

Outstanding video. Almost 10 years in the making. Union Pacific 844 has thrilled generations of people across the country for more than 70 years and next year will be her 75th anniversary on the high iron.
