Experience history with the “Big Boy”! For the first time since 1961, Union Pacific’s Big Boy, number 4014 ran under its own power becoming the largest operational steam locomotive in the world in 2019. Big Boy has been on display in Pomona, California since 1961, but after an extensive rebuild years in the making, the Big Boy took off from Cheyenne, Wyoming in May 2019, to Utah to take part in the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Golden Spike.
As part of this historic event, Union Pacific took the Big Boy on a tour in July and August of 2019 in what was called “The Great Race Across the Midwest.” C. Vision Productions covers a part of this tour from Mason City, Iowa, up to the Twin Cities and Twin Ports in Minnesota, then through Wisconsin, down to Chicago and across Illinois into Iowa. 16 videographers were on hand to document this giant locomotive from both the ground and the air!
As an added bonus, we also feature a chartered photo freight with restored Soo Line high hood GP7, number five fifty-nine on the Osceola and St. Croix Valley Railway in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Another excellent video by Chris and his gang! Lots of varied shots and locations and not just in the Chicagoland area! Unlike the first person who reviewed this video because it did not show his favorite location, this video has got to be the best Big Boy video in the market today!

With a total of 15 Camera Crews covering the action with the Big Beast of American Steam Railroading, this is an epic journey for 4014 during it’s second excursion special for the final year of the 2010’s decade, which includes a meet with Rock island 630 at Manly Iowa, & a bonus segment with GP7 number 559 on a freight special.

For those of us who could not make the trip to see 4014 running live, this is the next best thing. An excellent presentation of this king of steam. I loved every bit of it from the mainline running to the run-bys and scenes from the air. Just the sound alone is exciting. And the video has a nice touch with SOO Line GP 7 at the end. Very interesting.

Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 is definitely THE #1 biggest story of 2019. In the summer of 2019, just 2 months after the Promontory 150 celebration in Utah, the 4014 traveled to the Midwest region between Iowa and Wisconsin. The scenery is breathtaking and I would’ve given this one 10 stars. Big Boy’s whistle and running gear is a sound like no other could do. This video is well worth the effort.

Ha Ha! The other reviewer thinks the Midwest is only suburban Chicago! I liked this video. If I had a complaint about anything it would be too many short runbys. Some action other than runbys would be nice, but then again, it is 4014!! 🙂 All in all I think this is excellent, and it might be the only 4014 in the Midwest video out there.

Not satisfied with this video, because it never shows Big Boy going through Desplaines, Villa Park or Wheaton or actually pulling into West Chicago, This video is not titled correctly in my opinion. there needs to be a more expansive video touring the Midwest. What a waste.
