Union Pacific delighted Midwest steam fans when it announced The Great Race Across the Midwest featuring newly restored Big Boy 4014. The second trip for the largest operating steam locomotive in the world made us start looking over maps and scouting locations. The resulting documentary of the huge 4-8-8-4 in action includes 4014’s routes and many of the stops in Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

In this final Yard Goat Images DVD to be produced by Steve Mitchell before the entire company was relocated from Minnesota to Maryland, the still restored largest steam engine in America operated it’s second tour of the final year of the entire 2010s decade this time from Cheyenne Wyoming to the Midwest & back with a side trip to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum at Duluth. In the exact beginning of the program, there are historic still images of these mighty monsters in action, with one of the preserved engines 4004 once on a freight now on display in Cheyenne. Fun Fact: the still image of 4012 at Steamtown was photographed in June of 2010 during production of Pennsylvania Steam Stories. The stock footage of the first excursion run of 4014 with 844 was captured by Brian McDonnell.
