Enjoy great steam action as Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 “Big Boy” #4014 travels between Parsons, Kansas and Houston Texas. See 4014 as she goes down the old Katy on her way to Fort Worth. You’ll see the giant Big Boy passing through rural Oklahoma and crossing the Red River into Texas. See a great Ft. Worth departure as the Big Boy works through Tower 55 and travels on the old SP through central Texas, passing Texas A&M University and the quaint old town of Navisota. Huge crowds came out to see the Big Boy, and 4014 did not disappoint.

As the only American class 1 railroad never to retire steam, Union Pacific maintains 2 active steam locomotives in roster.
After a successful doubleheader with Living Legend 844 in 2019, Big Boy 4014 traveled from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana for its display and excursion day, Arkansas, Illinois and eventually St. Louis, Missouri before heading back to Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas as it travels back home to Cheyenne via Denver, Colorado.
In this video, Les Jarrett and Railway Productions crew only paced the 4014 between Parsons, Kansas and Houston, Texas. Great rural areas in the 3 states and great action.
And speaking of great, Union Pacific’s former steam star Challenger 3985 is on the verge of coming back to a multi year restoration as it is now being donated to the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America group in Illinois.
It maybe an hour long but if you love steam then this is the video you want to add to your library collection.

In this recent sequel to the May 2019 revival of the beast, there are a couple of clips with 4014 doubleheading with 844 in the opening scene, but the main focus of the program is the Big Boy’s Pre-80th birthday trip from Cheyenne to New Orleans & back in August & early September of this year. Les Jarrett & his Railway Productions crew chased the beast from Parsons Kansas to go as far as Houston Texas.
Locations on the route of the former Missouri Kansas Texas line aside from Parsons & Houston include Oswego, Welch OK, Vinita, Adair, Choteau Farm, Wagoner, Muskogee, Lake Eufala, McAlister, Stringtown with a northbound freight, Chockie siding, Caney, Caddo, Durant, Red River bridge at the Oklahoma Texas state line, Whitesboro, Collinsville, Aubrey, 3 sisters bridge, Ft. Worth with Tower 55, Lake Joe Pool, Sardis, Boyce, Rice, Corsicana, Kosse, Bremond, Hearne, Texas A&M University, Navasota, & Waller.
Even though there are lots of people young & old who also joined in to see a steam locomotive in action, this is A nice sequel & a tribute for the return of 4014, making it the truly gigantic steam engine in America since challenger 3985 was retired for the second time in 2010.
