This DVD features both steam and diesel power on both freight and passenger trains, which includes two separate outings by the Milwaukee Road 261 and Union Pacific 3985, respectively.

This was great with the deleted scenes of 4449 pulling the BNSF employee appreciated special as well as Soo line 2719 on an excursion. Even watching BNSF freight trains in Marias Pass is amazing.

It’s been 20 years since pentrex has made its final Best Of video as it shows a great variety of steam locomotives such as 2719 (no longer operational today), 261 (2 trips: one in Iowa, the other for the AAPRCO), 4449 (with deleted scenes from steam across the Pacific Northwest), & 3985 (one for the sequel to the VHS only format: California challenger, the other for The author Steve Ambrose which was exclusive to this program) to present day diesels on the rio grande, LTV (No Longer operational), VIA rail, Union Pacific, BNSF, & Amtrak. The Marias pass segment is the longest segment in this recently turned 20 year old best of video.

Lots of steam. SOO Line, Milwaukee, SP, & UP. And we see the Private Car Owner Special travelling to a foreign land. But to pick a favorite…. the LTV F-units working northern Minnesota. And don’t forget a visit to Maria’s Pass. This video is worth every moment of time to watch over and over again. A must for the railroad video collectors to have in your library.
