This program opens with, arguably, the best scene out of them all: the Santa Fe’s museum special, consisting of several steam engines, an A-B F-Unit set, and lots of other vintage diesels, all on their way to the California State Railroad Museum, pulled by a line of SP-SF merger Kodachrome units. Other scenes include a CNW business train through the Feather River Canyon, the Santa Fe’s Needles Sub, Southern Pacific #4449 on its way to film “Tough Guys,” an all-too-brief segment at Steamexpo featuring Stephenson’s Rocket, the John Bull, Union Pacific #4466, the V&T’s Inyo, and a couple others, and lastly the removal of Santa Fe #3751 so it can be restored.

I always like the Pentrex “Best Of” videos. They give you the best parts of the DVDs available from that year so you can decide if you want to purchase the full DVD. This one provides two hours of great video from 1986!

Much better than the Best of 1985, CNW SD50’s is a treat. Good BN action in Chicago. Decent run bys of the 4449 and the SD60’s are neat too.

This DVD showcases freight, passenger and special train movements during 1986, including a museum train of ATSF equipment for the California State Railroad Museum.

A great video. Really like the Museum Special and the Steam Expo as well as SF 3751. A nice blend of diesel & steam in this video. The Canadian content is also a bonus with both major Canadian railroads shown. Well done.

First the video starts with the Santa fe museum train as lots of historic engines combined to create an ultimate mash up of older power of mostly diesels, a rare doodlebug, and steam engines 5021 and 2925 on their way to the new home at the California state railroad museum in Sacramento with some good pacing action. Then its up to the feather canyon for the Chicago and north western special in august as they pulled the american association of railroad’s OT committee private VIP train. In April we head to Barstow for the test run of the EMD GP 60s on the at&sf to the big loop and Bakersfield. Plus a clip show from the over produced Denver & Rio grande western video, a look at the needles subdivision in 5 locations, SP 4449 To los Angeles for “Tough guys”, the trains of Canada, testing the new device to eliminate cabooses on mainline freights, moving AT&SF 3751 out of Viaduct pack to Fontana, and sample the Capital city of Railroading in america.

The Santa Fe Museum Special was great. Saw a bunch of historic power that has not moved in years. The Part I personally enjoyed the most was the C&NW Business Train on the Feather River. Such a beautiful train, even though it’s Zito Yellow paint is bright, still very beautiful. Well done!
