I always like the Pentrex “Best Of” videos. They give you the best parts of the DVDs available from that year so you can decide if you want to purchase the full DVD. This one provides one and a half hours of great video from 1984!

This program showcases many of the events that took place in 1984. You’ll see a variety of freight and passenger trains, along with some other interesting subjects.

The “Best of Series” is an excellent way to decide on future purchases. 2 here that really caught my eye was : SP Olympic Special & The Alaska Railroad. Really great stuff

This video has some good footage of the SP Olympic SD40R pulling a passenger train. Also footage of one of Amtraks Desert Wind trains, a rail grinder, ex SP 4449 pulling a all matching Daylight Consist to the World’s Fair in Louisiana and much more. We watched it for the first time this week and already want to watch again.

Nice mix of 1980’s railroading if you love that era Pentrex Best Of has always been the greatest I have never been disappointed in the best of series. I don’t believe you will be disappointed.

Not only this was one of the very first pentrex videos ever made, it is still alright despite Dave Drui’s minimal narration. There are still lots of unusual but interesting trains during the Beginnings. Which includes the Speno Rail Grinder on the AT&SF, The Southern Pacific Olympic Special at Beaumont hill and also at LAUPT, Santa Fe & Union Pacific on Cajon Pass with with the now-gone Desert Wind on Amtrak, The Feather River Canyon with the Western Pacific Railroad Museum and lots of UP Freights including a De-railment of 2 BN Boxcars at Pulga, and Riding the Yerba Buena Observation Car From Oakland to Denver on Amtrak’s California Zephyr. Plus sample clips of the Alaska Railroad f-units, & SP 4449 to the world’s fair are also included as well. Despite the Split-second Glitches.

  7. Dylan Jones

This video actually shows SP’s Olympic unit in operation. Little narration, great video. Lot’s of great scenes that will more than likely never be repeated. Gives younger railfans an insight to what the older railfans were seeing!
